Well, we made it through the holidays and now the New Year is upon us... and, what a year it was!
The events of the last year will not soon be forgotten. Not just September 11, 2001, but the aftermath of that day! The loss of our fellow Americans, people out of work, the economy in a recession... what next?
But... this is 2002! Can you believe it? It seems as though New Years Day 2001 was just here! My how time flies!
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and yes, a Happy New Years too! I also hope you got to spend the holidays with family and loved ones. That your travels over the holidays were safe and uneventful.
For me the holidays are overwhelming. Too much to do... too little time. Not to mention that it gets dark about 4:30!
Two years ago I decided to do something about it. Since I get bummed out in the Winter due to the lack of light, I decided that I would not dwell on the normal holiday festivities, but would celebrate the Winter Solstice! People asked, "why celebrate the first day of Winter if it depresses you?" Well, it isn't just the first day of Winter, but it is also the shortest day of the year. This is as bad as it gets. It's all uphill from here. The days will start to get longer, which for me is a very positive occurrance. It means that soon the days will be not only be longer, but warmer. The new shoots of Spring will start to push up from their hiding places and life begins anew. How wonderful!
Hopefully, as Winter subsides and Spring comes upon us, our lives and those of others will be started anew and 2002 will be the best year yet! The Editor
